Our high speed internet service utilizes the Motorola Canopy Wireless Broadband Platform, providing you with a reliable connection that does not require the use of a phone line.
Giving you an "always on" connection with speeds up to 2.5Mbps downstream and 500Kbps upstream, our service is delivered wireless to your home or business through a Motorola Canopy Subscriber Module (pictured below).
How does this work?
The subscriber module (SM) is mounted at your location and receives our wireless signal broadcast from multiple points across Transylvania County. An antenna is integrated into the SM providing a clean, unobtrusive and maintenance-free unit that will ensure your downloads and emails continue in even the toughest conditions.
A highly-trained installer will determine the best location for signal reception, mount the unit, and run a single network cable into your home or office and connect it to a broadband router (not included). They will then setup your account, test your connection, and you will be surfing the web before you know it.
There is a standard install fee of $50. A standard install includes mounting the SM, running a wire through an outside wall, and account setup. Additional charges may apply depending on the situation, such as if the wire will need to be run through an attic or crawl space. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Why Wireless?
The same geographical features that draw people to this area also pose challenges for traditional wired infrastructure. As you might imagine it is not easy to run and maintain wires in such mountainous terrain as is found all around Transylvania County.
Utilizing a high-quality wireless platform such as Motorola Canopy allows us to bring choice and quality service to those in some of the most remote areas of Transylvania County. Because a phone line is not needed, we are able to provide the options of high speed internet to area residents, even if they can not or choose not to have cable or phone service.
Does it work everywhere?
Unfortunately, as anyone who has ever used a cell phone knows, though wireless technology is amazing in its ability to connect remote areas to the rest of the world, it is not perfect. There are simply some areas in which the signals are too weak or just not there. Because of this, before setting up your account, a qualified technician will come to your home or office and do a free site survey to determine whether or not the signal is strong enough for you to maintain a quality connection.
